LONGEVITY TIPS
- Do not let your car idle for a long time after
starting the engine. The engine reaches
operating temperature
faster if the car is put under load, i.e., driven. Also, lubricants become
effective more quickly and engine wear is minimized.
- Do not race ("rev") your engine after
starting the car. Engine wear is greatest when the oil has not been
warmed. Racing the engine is particularly harmful in cold weather.
- If the engine
diesels after being shut off, prevent engine damage in the future by keeping
the transmission engaged in gear while turning off the ignition. The
additional drag on the engine will eliminate the diesel action.
